Thank you for reading and sharing my work, Vinny. I never know how to respond to the process of someone getting a gun in America. It’s kind of like hearing about someone getting a divorce. Is it a congratulations? Is it a grave sadness? Perhaps there is no clean response beyond accepting the action: and in that case, I commend you for taking some sort of decisive action. Be safe 🙏🏾

Your first sentence gives me nightmares because it put a mirror on my own thoughts. That very morning on my walk, before I read your post, I was thinking about learning to shoot a gun, something I have never been comfortable with as a person who always seeks the center, tries to find the common ground, to live without hate. The common ground is here. It’s in our art, our words, our hearts. I’m determined to find it again—and again. That’s where the hope lives.

In my idealist state, I am a 2A abolitionist. But we don’t live in an ideal world, and it is a long, unsafe road to travel to get anywhere close to one.

Have you heard "Armelite Rifle" by the Gang of Four? Classic punk.

Just wait for all the comments lecturing you about how many people (and their kids) end up dead from their own weapon. But I understand your thinking on this, and you know all that. A gun safe solves most of it. I know many people with many weapons. They mostly take it deadly serious.

Unless the judiciary falls, I expect things to improve after the orange pathogen leaves the scene. But that's years from now. It can only get worse. Or not. Who can know?

My only secret resentment about rapatriation is that I'm prepared to die while resisting if someone takes away my vote. Then the repatriots can come back and build memorials to the patriots. But I'm older and childless, so who cares? I know you have thought that through and, as you say, have to make the right decision for your kith and kin. No child needs a dead father with his name on a memorial.
